NBA Rumors: 3 Dallas Mavericks Who Won't Be Back Next Season

The Dallas Mavericks' shocking season has come to a merciless end, with what's left of the team heading home for the summer after their Play-In elimination at the hands of the Memphis Grizzlies.

GM Nico Harrison is left to pick up the pieces now after a disastrous second half of the season that saw him trade away franchise icon Luka Doncic while claiming that "defense wins championships." His big defensive acquisition in that deal, Anthony Davis, missed 18 straight games after an injury in his very first game with Dallas.

And now, the Mavs are going home after an epic collapse.

The Mavericks will have a lot to do to win back the fans this offseason, and we can say, with near certainty, that these three won't be back to suffer any longer in a Mavs jersey.

Kai Jones

The controversial big man was brought in as an emergency fill in, after all three Dallas centers, Davis, Daniel Gafford and Dereck Lively II, went down to injury. And while Jones fared pretty well in his limited showing, there really isn't a spot for him now that those three regulars are back, and returning next season.

Spencer Dinwiddie

In his second go-round in Big D, he filled in as the starter down the stretch as a much-needed point man after Kyrie Irving went down for the year (and Luka was already long gone). But as Lior Lampert of Fansided noted, "As an inefficient veteran combo guard who struggles defensively, Dinwiddie doesn't necessarily fit into Harrison's patented 'defense wins championships' philosophy."

But with Max Christie and Brandon Williams holding down the backcourt until Kyrie returns about midseason (they hope), Dinwiddie will be free to leave as a free agent this summer.

Kessler Edwards

On a two-way contract, his eligibilty for NBA play expired in late March. He becomes a restricted free agent this summer, but with other more notable forwards to develop, it's doubtful the Mavs will bring him back.

Now, if, in the unlikely scenario, the Mavericks decided they wanted to move on from the whole Luka/AD mess altogether and trade off Anthony Davis this summer, we've looked in on a blockbuster trade that's been proposed on that front as well.
