NBA Rumors: 3 NBA Coaches Whose Jobs Are In Jeopardy After the Season
We take a look at 3 NBA coaches who are on the hot seat, and could be sent packing after the 2024-25 season.
Nick Nurse, Philadelphia 76ers
The season has been a complete disaster for the Sixers, though a lot of it can be attributed to the injury troubles of Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey and even rookie Jared McCain, who was off to a tremendous start to the year in 23 games.
But no matter the cast of characters, Nurse has not been able to get them to perform adequately. "There's been plenty of buzz and speculation about Nick Nurse and his staying power," says insider Jake Fischer of Bleacher Report. "We've gotten rumblings about certain players not buying into what Nurse has done."
However, "This is the coach that Darryl Morey went out and got and replaced Doc Rivers with... I've only gotten word that Morey remains a supporter of Nurse, despite what's happened this season."
Doug Christie, Sacramento Kings
Christie, the interim head coach who took over from Mike Brown, has plenty of support from principal owner Vivek Ranadive, according to Fischer. And yet the Kings have lost seven of their last nine games to fall to the very bottom edge of the Play-In tournament in the Western Conference.
"Is that a situation that has staying power for (Christie)?" asks Fischer. He has a 24-22 record since taking the reins of the Kings. "Does that front office even have the opportunity to make that decision?" Assistant GM Wes Wilcox already left Sacramento for a job with the Utah Jazz.
Mike Budenholzer, Phoenix Suns
The Suns have had a dreadful season, despite the presence of Kevin Durant and Devin Booker. But former championship coach Budenholzer could only muster up a 35-42 record to this point, with five games to play. They are two games back of a Play-In spot.
But this is just Year 1 of Coach Bud's five-year deal worth a reported $50 million. Could Phoenix possibly bail on him and eat the remaining $40M?
"There are whispers about Budenholzer in Phoenix," says Fischer.
