NBA Rumors: 3 Philadelphia 76ers Who Won't Be Back in 2025-26
It was about as disastrous a season as could be in the City of Brotherly Love, as the Philadelphia 76ers plummeted from 47 wins to just 24, and a 13th-place standing in the Eastern Conference. Changes will be coming as the Sixers try to pick up the pieces and return to contender status next season.
Of course, it all starts with the health of Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey and sensational rookie Jared McCain. But after that, all bets are off.
As we consider which Sixers won't be back for 2025-26, we'd like to include Paul George (as would many Philly fans), but his albatross of a contract (perhaps surpassed only by Bradley Beal for NBA's worst contract), with three years and over $160 million still to run, makes him virtually untradeable.
So let's go with the following three as players who won't be back next season:
Kyle Lowry
At the age of 39, it seems that Father Time has caught up to the former world champion. A hip injury limited him to just 35 games in the 2024-25 season, and when he did play, he averaged only 3.9 points and 2.7 assists while shooting 35% from the floor and 33% from three-point range.
He's now a free agent, and after 19 seasons, this isn't exactly how he wants to go out, but it he might be better served sticking around as a coach, which is really what he spent most of the season doing, in an unofficial role.
Eric Gordon
Another grizzled veteran of the NBA wars, Gordon has a player option for next season at $3.4 million, however, even if he picks it up, it's more likely that the Sixers will use it as salary filler in a trade to move on from the 36-year-old. Like Lowry, his availability was curtailed to injury, and he played in just 39 games. It should be time in Philly to adhere to the old adage, 'out with the old, in with new.'
Alex Reese
Reese, a soon-to-be 26-year-old rookie, didn't make an impression that will likely stick with the Sixers, and as a free agent, it's unlikely he'll be back. He averaged 5.3 points in 14 games (15 minutes a night).
