NBA Rumors: 3 San Antonio Spurs Who Won't Be Back Next Season

The San Antonio Spurs are hoping to start a new playoff era next season with the return of a healthy Victor Wembanyama and his pairing up with newly-acquired star point guard De'Aaron Fox.

But some roster decisions must be made first this offseason, and with that, some players won't be back. Let's have a look at three who likely won't be with the Spurs when opening night rolls around in the fall.

Bismack Biyombo

Biz, the 13-year veteran big man, did his usual Bizzy things in his 28 games with the Spurs, averaging 5.1 points and 5.6 rebounds, right around his career marks, while shooting woefully from the line and elsewhere. He's a good soldier, and filled a need for the team at center when injuries and health problems beset their big man rotation. But he's not a long-term solution, and as a free agent, it's highly unlikely that he'll be back.

Charles Bassey

Another big man who will likely be gone, if only because of the fact that he just hasn't been able to stay healthy in his three seasons in San Antonio. The Spurs need a reliable backup center, and after averaging just 30 games a season, that's the last word you can use to describe Bassey. He, too, will be a free agent, and it's unlikely he'll be retained.

Chris Paul

The future Hall of Famer was certainly valuable as a mentor for the young Spurs team, but if he's looking at starting all 82 games again in 2025-26, it certainly won't be in San Antonio. The Spurs' backcourt of the future is now in place, after the midseason trade for De'Aaron Fox, and the emergence of exciting rookie Stephon Castle. With CP3 turning 40 in early May, it's time for him to step aside and make room for the new young Spurs backcourt, which should also include giving recent first-round pick, 21-year-old Blake Wesley, his turn as the third guard in the rotation.

If CP3 is back, perhaps it's as a coach, which would be the ideal next step for him.
