NBA Trade Rumors: 3 Offseason Trade Targets For Dallas Mavericks
The Dallas Mavericks' season went down the tubes in a hurry after the shocking trade of superstar Luka Doncic. They went from 70% playoff odds, to crashing out of the Play-In. It's time to reassess things, and we have a proposal of three offseason trade targets for the Mavericks to consider.
GM Nico Harrison needs to build a team that works best around his remaining two stars of Anthony Davis and (when he returns from an ACL tear around midseason), Kyrie Irving.
Zack Buckley of Bleacher Report has suggested these 3 summer trade candidates for Dallas:
- Aaron Nesmith, Indiana Pacers
- Ochai Agbaji, Toronto Raptors
- T.J. McConnell, Indiana Pacers
With AD as the big man down low, and Kyrie as the distributor and creator in the backcourt, finding some 3-and-D wings and a backup point guard should be the top priorities to help fill in around those two.
Buckley speculates that both Nesmith and Agbaji could be luxury tax casualties in Indiana and Toronto, respectively. The Pacers will likely be spending big to re-sign Myles Turner, which could free up Nesmith and McConnell. Nesmith has another two years to go on his deal at $11M per season. McConnell, the point guard, has another three seasons left, also an $11M AAV.
The Raptors have a club option on Agbaji for $6.3 million before he becomes a restricted free agent the following season.
While the 3-and-D chops of Nesmith and Agbaji are legit, McConnell would offer some expert playmaking, which the Mavs will certainly need behind Irving, who, as mentioned above, will be out for the first half of the season.
McConnell has averaged over 9 points and 5 assists in each of the last three seasons, and has hit over 40% of his threes in two of those years.
