NBA Trade Rumors: 3 Potential Destinations for Domantas Sabonis (+ Proposed Trade Returns)
The Sacramento Kings have already undergone some serious changes this season, but they could be in for another huge shake-up over the summer. All-Star center Domantas Sabonis has said he wants a meeting with Kings brass "to seek clarity about the organization's plan in the offseason," per Sam Amick of The Athletic.
If what he hears isn't to his liking, Sabonis could be following former Kings star De'Aaron Fox out the door.
If that's the case, here are three potential trade destinations for Sabonis, as laid out by Zach Buckley of Bleacher Report.
Charlotte Hornets
Sabonis and Fox were a great one-two punch for a while there in Sacramento. So why not pair the big man up with another star point guard, this time with LaMelo Ball in Charlotte?
Buckley suggests Miles Bridges, Mark Williams and draft picks as the potential return package that the Hornets could offer.
Detroit Pistons
The Pistons are one step away from being a true contender in the Eastern Conference, after their massive 30-game improvement this season to a 44-win team. Adding Sabonis in the right deal could push them towards the 50-win plateau. A Cade Cunningham/Sabonis duo would be pretty lethal.
The trade return from Detroit could be headlined by either Jaden Ivey, Jalen Duren or Isaiah Stewart, Buckley posits.
Memphis Grizzlies
As Buckley notes, a twin towers pairing of Sabonis and Jaren Jackson Jr. in the frontcourt would cause major headaches for opponents, as their talents perfectly complement each other. What Sabonis doesn't do on defense under the basket, JJJ does, and then on offense, Jackson Jr.'s floor spacing would create plenty of breathing room for Sabonis in the paint.
The return? If it's not Ja Morant (and it almost certainly wouldn't be), then perhaps a Desmond Bane/Zach Edey package could work, suggests Buckley.
