NBA Trade Rumors: 3-Team Blockbuster Sends Anthony Davis to the Bulls
The Dallas Mavericks need to get back to the drawing board. After the unforgivable trade that sent Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers, the team plummeted out of the playoff picture, and now are headed home.
And while we had a look earlier at three Mavs players who likely won't be back next season, could they also try to clean up the Luka-AD mess by sending Davis out of town this summer as well?
Andy Bailey of Bleacher Report has suggested a 3-team blockbuster that would send Anthony Davis to the Chicago Bulls, while getting the Orlando Magic some help as well. The hypothetical deal would go down like this:
Chicago Bulls receive:
- Anthony Davis
- Gary Harris
Orlando Magic receive:
- Nikola Vučević
- 2025 second-round pick from Dallas (via Philadelphia)
Dallas Mavericks receive:
- Zach Collins
- Kevin Huerter
- Jonathan Isaac
- 2028 first-round pick from Chicago
- 2029 first-round pick swap from Chicago
- Top-5 protected 2030 first-round pick from Chicago
AD is a Chicago, Illinois product, and it would be a homecoming for the big man. With Josh Giddey and Coby White going OFF in the second half of this season, the Bulls' backcourt seems to be in good hands for the future. Now to get the frontcourt sorted out with an All-NBA Defensive beast in the middle. In addition, Davis could also take the Chicago offense to a new level.
"(AD's) rim-running would make him a near-ideal complement for Giddey. And the attention he'd command inside would take pressure off both Giddey and White," writes Bailey. He feels that this deal would make the Bulls a top-6 contender in the East.
The Magic get back their former two-time All-Star center in Vucevic, and even though he's getting a little long in the tooth at 35 next season, he could be a short-term boost to their offense, as Orlando looks to be competitive in the immediate short-term.
Then there's the Mavericks. This would definitely be a 'starting from scratch' type of deal, and a look ahead to the future. In addition to the three first-round assets, they get Collins and Huerter, who not only come off the books after next season, but also could bring them back even more assets as trade pieces this coming year. Same for Isaac, who can still be a rim-protecting presence in limited minutes, and after next season, would have only $8M in guaranteed money remaining on his deal.
Seeing Dallas GM Nico Harrison completely admit ultimate defeat by swinging a deal like this seems unlikely, but the numbers all work, and the Mavericks would be more quickly on their road to redemption and a rebuild.
