Nuggets Could Trade Nikola Jokic for $185 Million Western Conference All-Star
In a surprising twist, Nikola Jokic’s time with the Denver Nuggets might be nearing an unexpected end in free agency.
Following the abrupt firing of head coach Michael Malone earlier this week, the Nuggets may consider a full reset—starting with moving their franchise centerpiece, Jokic, and redefining their future direction.
According to Clutch Points’ Bailey Bassett, a blockbuster trade involving Jokic and a Western Conference All-Star could emerge this offseason.
"The Houston Rockets have built a winning system, one that has propelled them to the No. 2 seed in the West," Bassett wrote on Tuesday. "Alperen Şengün is the team’s cornerstone, but Jalen Green and Amen Thompson aren’t far behind. Veterans Fred VanVleet and Dillon Brooks provide stability, while young talents like Jabari Smith Jr., Cam Whitmore, Tari Eason, and Reed Sheppard offer immense upside."
"Houston’s offense thrives through Şengün, who dominates in the post, stretches the floor with his jumper, and elevates his teammates with elite playmaking—a rare skill for a center. Of course, Jokic does all of this at an even higher level."
"Acquiring Jokic would let the Rockets keep their identity while making a massive upgrade. Houston is already among the NBA’s best, but adding Jokic could take them to another stratosphere."
Bassett’s proposed deal would send Jokic to Houston in exchange for Şengün, Eason, Sheppard, Whitmore, a 2025 first-round pick, and two 2027 first-rounders (via Brooklyn and Phoenix).
The Rockets, under Ime Udoka, have undergone a stunning transformation. Just two seasons removed from a dismal 22-60 record, they’ve surged to a 52-28 mark this year, locking up a top-three seed in the West.
Much of that success stems from Şengün, who earned his first All-Star nod this season. The 21-year-old big man operates with patience in the post, mixing crafty footwork, spin moves, and playmaking to keep defenses guessing.
This season, Şengün is averaging 19.2 points, 10.4 rebounds, and 4.9 assists per game. While he’s not yet on Jokic’s level, he’d give Denver a promising young star to build around.
Will the Nuggets and Rockets seriously explore a trade this summer? Only time will tell.
