NBA Trade Rumors: Devin Booker to Houston Rockets 'In Play' This Summer
Devin Booker’s future with the Phoenix Suns may be in jeopardy as the team faces a pivotal 2025 offseason.
Despite widespread belief that the Kentucky alum would retire with the Suns, he could instead be the centerpiece of a franchise-changing trade to the Houston Rockets this summer.
"Booker should be one of the Rockets' top targets this offseason if they decide to pursue a high-profile move," wrote Clutch Points’ Bailey Bassett on Thursday.
"Booker, one of the NBA’s elite players and arguably the best shooting guard in the league, brings Finals experience to the table. With the Suns wrapping up a disastrous season that will likely trigger major offseason shakeups, he could become available in a trade."
"He’d be an ideal fit for the Rockets’ system. In this proposed deal, he’d step in as a clear upgrade over Jalen Green, who is expected to leave. While Green is a proven scorer, he lacks Booker’s consistency."
Under Bassett’s trade scenario, the Suns would trade Booker to Houston in exchange for Green, Reed Sheppard, Jock Landale, and four first-round picks - 2025, 2026, 2027, and 2029.
Since being drafted by Phoenix in 2015, Booker has risen to stardom, earning four All-Star selections, two All-NBA honors, and a spot on the 2015-16 All-Rookie team. However, aside from a 2021 Finals run, he hasn’t led the Suns on a deep playoff push as their primary perimeter scorer.
This season, Booker is averaging 25.7 points, 7.1 assists, and 4.1 rebounds per game while shooting 45.9% from the field and 33.2% from three. But with the Suns missing the playoffs, major changes appear inevitable.
A trade to the Rockets would force Phoenix to pivot, but acquiring Green—a 23-year-old rising guard with room to grow—could help the Suns redefine their future.
As free agency approaches, Booker’s long-term status with the Suns is anything but certain.
