The Next 4 NBA Stars Who Will Request Trades
We've seen it many times over in the NBA. Superstar players, despite being under contract for several more years, are unhappy with their current situation and demand a trade. James Harden has made a career of it, while the likes of Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving aren't far behind.
So who will be the next NBA stars who will request a trade?
Top 4 NBA players who could demand a trade this summer
We're going to leave out the aforementioned member of the Trade Demand Hall of Fame, Kevin Durant, as we already know that he & the Phoenix Suns will be 'working together' to try to find a new destination for him this summer.
Per Zach Buckley of Bleacher Report, the other four are as follows, listed here from the most impactful on down.
Giannis Antetokounmpo, Milwaukee Bucks
With just one playoff series win in the last four years since winning the title in 2021 (and now down 0-2 to the Indiana Pacers this year), it's hard to imagine that Giannis won't seek greener pastures soon enough, despite his claims that he would never do that. Giannis is 30 now, and his prime won't last forever.
The two-time MVP and Finals MVP has two more years to run plus a player option on his contract with the Bucks.
Ja Morant, Memphis Grizzlies
One of the most dynamic players in the league, Morant was shocked like the rest of us when the Grizzlies dumped head coach Taylor Jenkins with just a few games to go in the regular season. Now they're out there getting absolutely demolished in their first-round playoff matchup with the OKC Thunder. Will Morant ever consider asking out? It's hard to say, but as Buckley writes, with only one playoff series victory in his six years in Memphis, "It's certainly not impossible to think Morant might wonder whether he could find a better situation… and superior vibes over the summer."
He has three years to run on his contract.
LaMelo Ball, Charlotte Hornets
If you thought Morant hasn't had much team success, can't we all just hear Ball saying, 'Hold my beer'? The Hornets have never even made the playoffs in Ball's five-year run. Of course, his own lack of availability hasn't helped. He has only played more than 51 games once in his career, and has averaged just 46 games a year.
Perhaps getting himself to a better situation (i.e. a winning one) might somehow inspire 'Melo to stay on the court in a more substantial way, and display his immense playmaking and scoring talents for a contender.
He just finished the first season of a new 5-year deal he signed with the Hornets last summer.
Domantas Sabonis, Sacramento Kings
After losing his co-star De'Aaron Fox to a trade at midseason (another of those star players requesting a trade), Sabonis is at least questioning the direction the Kings are moving in. He wants a meeting with team brass to discuss the situation.
Sabonis can be a strong piece down low for a contender, but it's very unlikely to be in Sacramento, with the way their roster is looking. He could be the next one to ask out.
We just discussed 3 potential trade destinations for Sabonis earlier this week, if it comes to that.
Sabonis just completed the first of a new 4-year deal with the Kings.
